Over the Sea -- A Joint Exhibition of Cultural Relics from Eight "Maritime Silk Road" Cities

Prologue
二千多年前开始逐渐形成的“海上丝绸之路”,跨越浩瀚大海,把中国与世界连接起来,促进了中外文化的交流,增进了中外人民的友谊,丰富了中国文化的内涵,推动了世界文明的进程。
The “Maritime Silk Road”, which came into existance more than two thousand years ago, facilitated the exchanges between China and foreign countries, enhanced the friendship between Chinese and foreign people, enriched the meaning of the Chinese culture and promoted the process of the world’s civilization by connecting China with the world across the vast sea.
“海上丝绸之路”由两大干线组成,一是由中国通往朝鲜半岛及日本列岛的东海航线,二是由中国通往东南亚及印度洋地区的南海航线。蓬莱、扬州、宁波、福州、泉州、漳州、广州、北海等中国最主要的“海上丝绸之路”城市,犹如璀璨的明珠,点缀在中国漫长的海岸线上,放射出耀眼光芒。通过这些“海丝城市”,中国的丝绸、茶叶、瓷器等物产越洋过海,远销他乡;海外远国的珠宝香料、异兽奇药梯山航海,源源不断地输入中国;中外使臣执节往返,各国商人赍货逐利,宗教信徒舍生弘法,多种文化交流融合……
The “Maritime Silk Road” was composed of two trunk routes: one was the East Sea Route from China to Korean Peninsula and Nihon Retto, and the other the South Sea Route from China to South-East Asia and Indian Ocean Area. The most important Chinese cities along the “Maritime Silk Road” including Penglai, Yangzhou, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou, Baihai, etc. were like bright pearls adorning China’s endless coastline and shining out with great brilliancy. Through these “Maritime Silk Road ”cities, China’s products such as silk, tea and porcelain were sold across the sea to distant lands; meanwhile, a steady flow of foreign jewels, perfume, animals and medicines was imported into China after long and hard journeys; China and foreign envoys associated with each other, businessmen from all countries marketed goods for profit, and religious believers sacrificed their own interests to promote their religions, diverse cultures exchanged and integrated with each other……
蓬莱、扬州、宁波、福州、泉州、漳州、广州、北海这八个中国“海丝城市”的博物馆,本着融合共享、联动协作的精神,首次联合举办“海上丝绸之路”文化遗产精品展,借以全面反映中国“海上丝绸之路”在世界文明史上的影响与贡献,展示这八个“海丝城市”在“海上丝绸之路”兴起、发展中的地位与作用。
Penglai, Yangzhou, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou and Beihai, the eight China’s historical “Maritime Silk Road Cities” jointly held a fine cultural heritage exhibition on the “Maritime Silk Road” for the first time under the principle of integration, sharing and collaboration, in order to showcase the influence and contributions of China’s “Maritime Silk Road” in the history of the world’s civilization and to demonstrate the role of the eight “Maritime Silk Road Cities” in the emergence and development of the “Maritime Silk Road” in an all-sided manner.
